We most often hear people’s different opinions about granite history from Mark Roemer Oakland, so we decided to provide you detailed history inside the Granite that forms your countertops. We all know that in modern times most home additions are granite countertops.

History of Granite

Granite creates under many ft of the earth that takes a lot of time to create. It passes through a process to become the modern polished worktops present in the cabinets.

How Granite is formed– Granite creates when thick or sticky viscous magma cools down slowly and crystallizes long before reaching the earth’s surface. Granites are crystalline rock, coarse-grained and made of quartz (grey or glassy looking), shiny black or pale mica, and feldspar (typically, it is blocky shapes, white or pinkish).

Granite composition– Granite rocks contain biotite micas and muscovite that are binary mica granite. Both mica granites have a high concentration of potassium and a low concentration of plagioclase, usually called A-type granite or S-type granites.

Its composition is felsic and common in recent geologic times compared to Earth’s ultra-magnificent  igneous history.  Such felsic rocks are denser than ultramafic and mafic rocks, so they tend to escape seduction. These rocks take millions of years to produce under the earth’s surface. From radioactive elements, it is proved that granites of SW England take more than 300 million years to cool down.

How granite extract from the earth-  Miners extract Granite from the crust in the form of large and heavy blocks that then transport by big trucks to the processing units where they are cut to size. Mining granite is a complex industrial process.

Miners try to find the rocks closer to the earth top as much as possible. They remove the earth layers by drilling large holes and using hydraulic hammers to separate them from the crust surface. After that, they are transported by large trucks to the facility units for further processing.

How Granite processed– After transporting to processing units, the large blocks that may be over 10 tons are cut into small pieces and then give them shape as required. Granite rocks may pass through a long process to cut further small pieces to reach the required size.

Polishing of Granite– Granite rocks pass through several polishing steps to reach to final form as we get for use.  Polishing starts from hard jewel polishing pads and then finer-grade pads. After processing, they store, but when they need to ship, the process repeats to give a refined look.

When Granite starts using for countertops– The history of using granite for countertops is not more than fifty years; granite was used in the early 1920s in luxury homes construction and additions, but in the 1970s, Granite become popular to use for countertop.

Conclusion:

Granite is an excellent rock that gives your countertops a magnificent look, and they become trendy to use for countertops and other home additions. Mark Roemer Oakland researched the granite history and found it creates under the earth after millions of year’s process, and then it passes through industrial passes to reach its final form to use for your countertops.
